Brighter Workplaces equals Happier Employees

As we become more conscious as a society of living healthier and happier lifestyles, the amount of natural light in workplaces is often overlooked.

Natralight is the leading manufacturers and installers of skylights across the UK, having completed plenty of high-profile projects in places such as Westminster.

For our latest blog, we are going to explore how more sunlight has been proven to benefit workers.

The Science of Natural Light

There is significant evidence that our workplaces impact our happiness, wellbeing and productivity – with the amount of daylight is a big factor in this.

Natural light helps to synchronise our sleep-wake cycle which helps us to stay alert during the day and to sleep at night.

Research from Cornell University Professor Dr Alan Hedge in 2018 stated the connection between natural light in an office significantly improves health and wellness for workers.

Workers in daylight office environments reported a 51% drop in the incidence of eyestrain, a 63% drop in the incidence of headaches and a 56% reduction in drowsiness.

Despite evidence of all of these benefits thousands of workplaces across the country remain poorly optimised in terms of the amount of natural light their employees receive.

With employers increasingly understanding the connection between productivity and employee wellbeing, an agenda of responsibility is now being considered by building owners and developers.
